From purchase to personal library

Three steps.
Something worth keeping.

  1. Sign in with Amazon.

Connect your Amazon account inside the app. Start with the account that already has your books.

  2. Find your books. Convert.

See your Kindle library with a clear Convert button beside each book. Create or sign in to your OpenKindl account when you first convert.

  3. Your files. On your disk.

Choose a library folder and export your personal copies. Keep them, open them in a compatible reader, and back them up your way.

The experience described here is the product plan. Public desktop builds and Amazon sign-in are coming soon.

Keep first. Enjoy next.

More ways into
a good book.

Ownership is the starting point. Reading and listening are where your library comes to life.

Feature roadmap · availability will be listed with each release.

01 / KEEP

Backup, free forever.

Export your own library without a backup fee or a subscription. Choose EPUB, TXT, MOBI, or AZW3.

02 / LISTEN

Make it an audiobook.

Turn your personal copy into narration. Keep per-chapter MP3 files and a single, chaptered M4B for your audiobook player.

03 / FOCUS

Find your reading pace.

A speed reader brings words to a steady focal point, with a pace you control. Ten free uses, then tokens or a subscription.

04 / FOLLOW

Read along. Word by word.

The karaoke visualiser highlights text as narration plays. Ten free uses, then tokens or a subscription.

05 / CONTINUE

Pick up across devices.

Planned cross-device sync brings your books, audiobooks, and reading or listening position to desktop, phone, and tablet.

06 / BRING YOUR OWN

One personal collection.

Planned imports let you add your own ebook and audiobook files alongside your Kindle exports.

A follow-along that tells the truth. Word highlighting depends on matching text and reliable timings. When those are missing, the reader will show sentence highlighting or audio-only playback.

Pay for the extras

Keeping your books is free.

Audiobooks fund the extras. Your backup stays free whether or not you ever buy tokens.

A few honest answers

Before you
make room.

Which books can I export?

Export only books you own and have the rights to back up. OpenKindl is for your personal library. It does not grant copyright permissions or provide sharing, redistribution, or a book marketplace.

Is every Kindle book guaranteed to work?

No. Compatibility depends on the book, format, and Amazon’s services, which can change. Public release notes will identify supported systems and known limits. Keep your original purchases and check your exports.

Do I need another account?

The planned flow starts with Amazon sign-in inside the app. Browse your library first; create or sign in to an OpenKindl account only when you try to convert. Backup remains free.

Does my book leave my computer?

Ebook conversion runs locally. Cloud narration sends cleaned book text to a speech provider when you request it. Planned cloud sync will also transfer library files when enabled. These optional services need their own disclosures; see the privacy summary.

Is the first audiobook always completely free?

New accounts are planned to receive a limited token allowance for a first audiobook of reasonable length. A long book can exceed it. Exact allowances and generation estimates will be shown before paid narration is offered.

Can I use it on my phone today?

No public mobile release is available here. Desktop builds are coming soon; phone and tablet access with cross-device progress is planned. Check the download page for release availability.

Is OpenKindl part of Amazon?

No. OpenKindl is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Amazon. Amazon and Kindle are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
